"'Activators' wanted to host & lead brand new, social after-school badminton sessions! "

"BADMINTON England is on a mission to put the ‘cool’ back into the ‘afterschool’ delivery of badminton when we launch a brand new programme of highly social badminton gameplay aimed at engaging the 13-16 year old market.

So, BADMINTON England want to take this perception, shake then shatter it and make after-school badminton something the pupils enjoy swinging a racket at by putting the focus on fun and friends rather than traditional skills development or PE–style delivery.

We are on the hunt for enthusiastic, engaging ‘activators’ who know how to motivate and interact with non-sporty school kids to host and lead all new branded in-school sessions...." click here for the rest of the information and application, and let us ( know, too, if you are interested.

BE CEO Adrian Christy Announces Regional Restructure
8th November Adrian Christy, CEO BADMINTON England sent a letter to Counties describing a regional restructure that will see:
- the reduction of the number of Regions from 8 to 5
- Herts' East Region being merged with London (with just one manager)
- withdrawal of county Development Officers (our Lee Bent returns to HQ end of December).
This is being driven by the Government's (and hence Sport England's) priority to increase grass roots participation and the expected reduction in funding to BE over the next 4 years.
BE Head Office are organising county meetings in January-February to explain the reorganisation and the implications.
See the attached letter from Adrian Christy. All queries should be directed to HBA Chairman, Malcolm Fraser.
Westminster Lodge, St Albans, Re-opening Event

The badminton taster sessions were so popular there were often 8 per court and players between courts, too!
Thanks to Lee Bent for organising and Gill and Dave Bartlett for providing the taster sessions..

Herts County Championships, 29th & 30th September
Andy Walden bagged a hat trick of titles at the County Championship held over the weekend 29th & 30th September 2012. Played at the new refurbished Birchwood Leisure Centre in Hatfield.
In the singles the Herts County appearance record holder, Andy, defeated Paul Monk in three games. 17-21, 21-12, 21-12. Monk the eldest son of Stanstead Abbott’s stalwarts Belinda & Jeff Monk was playing his first County Championship for many years having returned from University this time last year.
Men’s Doubles Finalists

Walden partnered fellow Ware BC club mate Chris Holt to victory in the level doubles with a straight games win over Rob Pace & James Hor. Nine pairs completed in this event and it was good to see a good cross section of players competing.
Men’s Doubles Finalists
Rob Pace, James Hor, Andy Walden & Chris Holt
Walden’s third title came in the mixed with Charity Barnes winning five straight matches without dropping a game. The final saw Walden and Barnes take on level Walden's doubles partner Chris Holt and new mum Kath Warden. See Youtube video.

Charity Barnes picked up a second title over the weekend with victory in the women’s singles against under 17 county player Philippa English. Philiipa had early in the day come through a classic three game match against former title holder Caroline Hale, winning 21-19 in the final game decider.

Charity could not match Andy’s three titles when partnering Kath Warden they went down in two very close games against Katie Comras and Frankie Edelmann.

Many thanks to joint Referees Terry Broughton & Bob Cheshire and our ever present President Bob Welsh for officiating over the weekend.

Sunday 23rd September 2012 saw three teams compete in the Area League Challenge at the newly refurbished Birchwood Leisure Centre in Hatfield.

Last year’s event required a play off to find the eventual winners the county U17 side. This year’s nail biting affair produced another winner in the form of the Hertford Area League who, after being equal with North Herts on match and team wins, were pipped 17 - 16 on games won.

Commiserations to North Herts for the second year who lost by the closest of margins.

Congratulations to the winning team from Hertford Area: James Lwin, Philip Knudsen, Greg Clark, Mel Clark, Karol Perley & Jade Tang.

North Herts were represented by Ben Vrankovic, Richard Adams, David Leamy, Jennie Briggs, Nicky Dewhurst & Sangeeta Dhall.

The County under 17 team were represented by Hugo Weaver, David Maughan, Jake Goode, Libby Jennings, Laura Monk & Ying Cen Tee.

Thanks to our County President Bob Welch who assisted at the event.

Wimbledon Summer Team Tournament 21st & 22nd July 2018

One of the best team tournaments in the badminton calendar is back in 2018 at the Wimbledon Racquets & Fitness Club.

The Wimbledon Summer Team tournament has been going for over 10 years and in that time has gone from strength to strength. It's a fabulous competitive and fun

Team event but also a fantastic social event on the Saturday night with disco, BBQ and fancy dress.

Anyone who has played Gold or Silver Senior events, or has represented their county at Senior Level or is a Division 1, 2 club player would be eligible and enjoy this event.

Each team consists of three men and three women ranked one to three. Each team will play a minimum of five hybrid matches over the two days. A hybrid match consists of 9 rubbers ( 1 game to 21), 3 men's doubles, 3 women's doubles and 3 mixed.

Entry fee of £44 per player (£264 per team) is great value as it includes all the weekends badminton, party pass to disco and BBQ (which is great food) and a free Tournament Shirt. Cash prizes are available for at least first and second placed teams plus other prizes available.

If you are interested or want to find out more, please find attached link to the entry form

or please contact the tournament organiser Tracy Dineen Places are limited and this is a popular event so don't delay!!
